Distribution Frequently Asked Questions
- Does letterbox advertising work? Yes it does, firstly providing your advertising material is effectively created and secondly, preferably presented on its own, not buried within newspapers and generic pizza leaflets etc. You should aim for your advertisement to stand out as noteworthy. Also consider that excellent, full coverage distribution cannot make up for a poorly thought out and non-engaging advertisement so it is advisable to invest in having an experienced graphic designer work with you to create your material.
- Do you offer design services? Yes, you can have your advertising material designed to a professional standard by one of our graphic designers.
- Do you offer print services? Yes, you can have your flyers and leaflets printed to a suitably high standard by us. Please be extremely wary of companies offering low price print options. They are almost certainly a false economy and are more likely to harm your business reputation than enhance it. You can read about the false economy of cheap printing here.
- What should I consider when creating my advertising leaflet or flyer? You should ensure that your message is clear, concise and preferably has a strong call to action. Remember to add all relevant information and your contact details. Ensure you proof read your text and check your artwork several times before sending to print to avoid any potentially costly mistakes. Preferably have someone else check it over for you as a fresh pair of eyes may see an error that you have not noticed.
- What is a suitable format for letterbox advertising? Most advertising messages can fit adequately on A5 flat format or A4 folded format. Consider how much information a potential customer may initially need to consider enquiring about using your service or attending your event. Paper stock weight should preferably be 170 gsm for flyers and folded leaflets. Below 170 gsm is too flimsy and above is unnecessarily heavy. Paper stock finish should be an uncoated finish or a silk finish. Gloss finish is very slippy with a high glare factor which is not ideally suited to letterbox advertising. - What is the difference between a leaflet and a flyer? Many people consider the words interchangeable. Technically a flyer is a single, flat, unfolded printed paper. Whereas a leaflet is a printed paper that has one or more folds which create pages.
- Why should I choose a solus or solus + 1 distribution service for my leaflets / flyers rather than a cheaper, multi-client, shared option? Simply put, you will get what you pay for. A cheap, multi-client, shared distribution service will offer a significantly reduced response rate.
- I already have my leaflets / flyers: How should I get them to you? You may drop them off yourself at our Redditch address, have them delivered to us by post or we can arrange to collect them from your address within Redditch and Studley for a fee of £20.
- How will I know when my leaflets / flyers have been distributed? We will send you a report detailing areas covered and amount distributed. You should also notice an influx of customer interest in response to your advertising. With this in mind you should make sure you are ready to accommodate the extra demand on your services.
- What is the distribution saturation rate? In our experience we have found that we can successfully deliver to approximately 96% of the households on route. There is a small percentage that cannot be delivered to due to various reasons such as: refused or declined by the householder, no access – locked entry, building works or health and safety issues such as dogs or unsafe conditions.

How long does it take to deliver 1,000 leaflets or flyers? It takes longer than you may think. From our experience, it takes approximately 10 hours for one person to deliver to 1,000 properties. Residential areas and properties can vary wildly. Some may be quicker and easier to access, others may have long drives, tricky gates and impassable divisions and obstacles between them creating a much longer journey time. Extra care has to be taken to respect other peoples property and not trample on householders grass or knock off car wing mirrors whilst trying to squeeze past with a loaded leaflet bag! We value the reputation of our business and yours. A disgruntled householder wishing to complain does not bode well for either.
